Freight rates are going crazy”, “record-breaking again”…

This is the phrase that foreign trade and freight forwarding professionals often say recently.

As China-US trade picks up, the number of sea containers shipped from China to the US increased by 46.5% to 987,834, accounting for about 60% of Asia's shipping volume.

It is hard to get a container or a cabin! Frequent overbooking and cancellation of containers, freight rates soar!

According to data released by the US research company Descartes Datamyne on May 11, in April this year, the volume of sea container shipments from Asia to the United States increased by 32.1% year-on-year to 1,656,443; the volume has increased for 10 consecutive months, setting a new monthly record in April in previous years.

"Starting from April this year, we have been troubled by the problem of 'it's hard to get a container' again. Not only can we not book a container in May, but the price of a 40-foot container on the US West Coast route is US$9,000, which is nearly double the price at the end of last year. The orders received by the factory at the beginning of the year are all waiting to be shipped." A seller couldn't help but exclaim "It's too difficult."

Why have shipping prices increased so much? The main reason is still the shortage of containers and tight ship space.

In fact, it is not only the US route, but also the global ocean container freight rates are also rising wildly. Currently, the freight rates of 80% of the global routes have soared! Industry insiders analyzed that before September this year, it is difficult for the container shipping price to fall.

The congestion at the three major ports in the western United States is getting worse. Hapag-Lloyd has announced that it will switch to Oakland.

We would like to remind you that everyone should arrange shipments reasonably and arrange bookings in advance. Freight forwarders and shippers who have traded with the United States recently should pay attention to the logistics situation in real time.
